Block MikeHow to Reduce Failure with Your Implant Patients -- Including COVID

Friday, May 7

Time:  8:15 - 11:15 am
Quick Summary: Why do implants fail?  And now what about COVID exposure?  Will patients who experienced a COVID exposure be at risk for implant complications?
Fee: Doctors $68 All Others $27
Course Description:

Implant failures can occur during the period of integration, within the first years following restoration, and long term.  The discussion will be based on an analysis of failures compared to non-failed patients, identifying factors that are associated with implant failure.  Further analysis of failure of posterior mandibular implants indicates porosity of bone is an important factor to consider when treatment planning your patient.  There is also early data that shows that patients with a COVID positive experience may be prone to implant problems – the mechanisms for this will be presented.

Learning objectives:
  1. Recognize which systemic and local factors influence early and late implant failure.
  2. Understand the importance of bone porosity on implant failure.
  3. Understand the mechanism for how COVID-19 may adversely affect implant success.
