Dental Risks of Bisphosphonates and an Update on Their Usage and Complications
After this seminar, attendees should be familiar with the reasons for using bisphosphonates and problems caused related to dental/oral healing. Treatment options for patients on both oral and IV medications will be presented, as well as a review on current methods for preventing and managing BRONJ (bisphosphonates related osteonecrosis of the jaw).
Course Objectives:
· Understand the function and purpose of bisphosphonates in bone metabolism.
· Realize complications that can arise from procedures performed on patients taking Bisphosphonates.
· Identify patients with higher risks to develop BRONJ.
· State methods to prevent complications utilizing good screening and counseling methods.
· State methods of treating complications if they arise.
