Dr. Karl Koerner

Effective Atraumatic Oral Surgery for the General Dentist Workshop
NOTE: This session is limited to 35 participants. DOCTORS ONLY.
On life-like dentoform models, participants perform surgery procedures that are a prelude to doing them on patients. Principles and techniques from discussion are realistically implemented on models. A "surgical" extraction is done followed by socket preservation with bone graft material and a barrier membrane. A partial bony impaction is performed complete with flap reflection and bone removal in a manner to avoid sensitive anatomic structures. The site is then treated to prevent dry socket. An excisional biopsy and other minor oral surgery procedures are also performed on models while Dr. Koerner instructs and critiques to help participants ascribe to current standards of care.
Objectives:
This course will enable the general dentist to: 1. Go back to the office with knowledge superior to merely listening to a presentation.
2. Have a solid feel for soft tissue incisions, bone removal, and placement of bone graft material since this is a very close simulation to a real patient.
3. Know first-hand how various surgical materials are used and/or manipulated.
4. Receive one-on-one instruction and feedback on a number of surgery procedures.
5. Understand what current standards of care are regarding several surgeries commonly done in general practice.
