Selecting and Integrating Treatment Strategies into Dental Hygiene Care
Current research indicates the dental hygienist in general practice can play an important role in the treatment of periodontal disease. As co-therapists in the treatment of disease, dental hygienists must remain current with treatment recommendations and the evidence for oral care strategies. This course will include content on risk factors for oral disease, including the latest information on the linkage between systemic and periodontal disease. Periodontal maintenance therapy will be emphasized to include ways to motivate patients, essential re-evaluation components, and treatment and product recommendations for maintenance patients.
Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:
• Discuss current theory on risk factors for periodontal disease.
• Select available products for controlling periodontitis.
• Recommend specific home care techniques and products for periodontal maintenance patients based on scientific evidence.
