Dr. Richard Souviron

From Identification of the Unknown to Bite Marks
This full day presentation will provide the participant with an in-depth exposure to the broad field of forensic odontology from its early days in the 1970's to the present. The area of greatest controversy is bite mark analysis and it carries the greatest risk to the defendant and the odontologist. Some very important cases will be presented in the spirit of learning from mistakes of the past so that the future will be more scientific and objective. Video presentations of 60 Minutes, Discovery Channel and Court TV cases will expose the participants to the grave nature of bite mark evidence and its importance to the criminal justice system. A brief discussion of risk management will be a part of the presentation. It will focus on prevention and defenses in malpractice litigation.
