Parenting with Love and Leadership:
From Tots to Teens
The
emotional, social and behavioral health of a child depends primarily on parents
and caregivers who
provide the child with the two L words - LOVE and LEADERSHIP. Unfortunately, in
today's parenting culture, many of even the most well-intentioned parents are
diluting love with lots of enabling and substituting relationship for
leadership. This creates predictable problems not only for the child, but for
parents, teachers, dentists and other healthcare providers. In this
presentation, one of America's best known parenting experts will answer two
questions: (1) How did we get here? and (2) How can we recover common
sense when it comes to children?
Course Objectives
- upon completion of this course, attendees will have a better understanding
of:
- The "seasons" of parenting.
- How each influences child development, the
parent-child relationship and the parental role.
- The importance of parents providing leadership to
children, especially from ages 3 - 13 (season two).
- What "leadership parenting" looks
like.
- How the culture-wide paradigm shift in the 1960's
and 1970's influenced child rearing.
- How that shift resonates in culture and
the family today.
- How to properly discipline a child.
- The fact that disciplining a child is not
accomplished by behavior modification based methods.
