Course Description:  Botox injections can be used to prevent and forestall wrinkling of facial skin by selective relaxation of the muscles of facial expression.  In addition to its cosmetic efficacy, it is used widely as a therapeutic agent to treat myo-fascial pain.  Many dental offices are now successfully integrating the use of Botox in their practices.  This session will give an overview of the use of Botox for cosmetics and therapeutics in dentistry.

Learning Objectives:   

  1. Learn the mechanism of action for effective cosmetic Botox treatment.
  2. Learn the risks vs. benefits, as well as the indications and contra-indications of botulinum neurotoxin injections.
  3. Learn how Botox can be used in dental therapeutics as a conservative choice for myofascial pain associated with TMD and headaches.
